Electrophysiology

Cardiac electrophysiology is the study of the heart’s electrical system. Electrophysiologists at the UAB Heart and Vascular Center use minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and correct cardiac rhythm abnormalities or arrhythmias.

Electrophysiologists use state-of-the-art fluoroscopic imaging techniques to help guide catheters introduced into the body through a peripheral blood vessel, such as the femoral artery, to specific areas of the heart.

Electrophysiologists in the UAB Heart and Vascular Center see some 1,700 patients a year. The center features a total of 13 procedural suites, 3 of which are dedicated to electrophysiology.
