UAB is the only hospital in central Alabama to offer invasive and interventional pediatric cardiology. Our pediatric cardiologists see some 400 patients a year including newborns, infants, children, and young adults with various types of congenital heart disease.

We perform all types of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedures. These include:

• closures of patent ductus arteriosus and atrial septal defects 
• closures of patent foramen ovales
• balloon valvoplasty for congenital stenosis of the aortic and pulmonary valves
• balloon angioplasties and stent angioplasties in cases of congenital stenosis of the pulmonary artery and aorta

Pediatric cardiology has a procedural suite dedicated solely to the sub-specialty in the Heart and Vascular Center located in the North Pavilion.
