UAB’s Obstetrics and Gynecology program provides comprehensive care for every stage of life – from routine gynecologic care, to childbirth, to menopause and beyond. Our physicians are leaders in their fields in a nationally ranked program dedicated to giving you the best care available.
With the opening of the new Women and Infants Center in spring 2010, UAB will build upon our excellence in women’s care. Our patients will have access to a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the most advanced medical technologies available. The 400,000-square-foot Women and Infants Center will boast private medical evaluation and inpatient rooms for expectant mothers, the only Level III-C Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU) in the state and superior care for gynecologic cancers. - High-Risk Pregnancy: Provided by the UAB Division of Maternal and Fetal Medicine , this division is one of the country’s top programs of its kind. We provide high-risk obstetric care with the most advanced diagnostic services and treatments for women with special pregnancy concerns, including advanced age, multiple fetuses, diabetes, complicated pregnancy history or other medical conditions. - Infertility: Provided by the UAB Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility , this division is staffed by a team of highly trained medical experts and provides the least intrusive and most advanced infertility treatments available, including a cancer and fertility preservation program. - Menopause, Hormonal Disorders, and Osteoporosis: Provided by the UAB Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, this division provides treatment for hormonal disorders such as irregular menstrual bleeding, excessive hair growth, osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment, hormone replacement therapy and puberty and menopause concerns, in addition to comprehensive infertility services (see above). - Urgynecology and Incontinence: Provided by the UAB Division of Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Alabama’s leader in the field of urogynecology, this division provides professional, sensitive care for women with incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. - Gynecologic Cancer: Provided by the UAB Division of Gynecologic Oncology, this division is a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive, compassionate care for women with gynecologic cancers. Infant Care Services
UAB Obstetrics and Gynecology also works closely with the UAB Department of Pediatrics and The Children’s Hospital of Alabama to provide comprehensive care for well babies and preterm and term babies with medical conditions.
- Newborn Care. Medical staff in The UAB Division of General Pediatrics cares for more than 4,000 newborns in the Well-baby nursery each year. More . . .
- Newborn Intensive Care. The UAB Division of Pediatric Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine provides comprehensive care for pre-term babies and newborns with illnesses, including respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal infections, persistent pulmonary hypertension and more. This division operates the region’s only Level IIIC Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit which, in addition to babies in need of this care who are born at UAB, also accepts referrals of infants from across the state, the nation and internationally. - Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit. UAB's Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (RNICU) delivers world-class care to the smallest and sickest babies in Alabama and the region. With a combination of state-of-the-art technology and a compassionate, knowledgeable and skilled neonatal care team, the RNICU at UAB, in conjunction with The Children’s Hospital of Alabama, is classified as a Level IIIC RNICU, the highest level possible and the only Level IIIC in the state.
