Newborn Intensive Care
Pediatric Neonatal and Prenatal Medicine provides comprehensive care of all neonatal illness, using the most complete and up-to-date techniques. It is also responsible for the operation of the Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit at UAB Hospital and provides care to preterm and term neonates with any medical condition. It also accepts referrals of infants with genetic, cardiac, and surgical problems from the state, the nation, and from overseas.
Special interests include:
- respiratory distress syndrome
- neonatal infections
- persistent pulmonary hypertension
- ventilation techniques in newborns
- neonatal apnea
- cardiovascular problems
- complications arising from prematurity
