A comprehensive set of services for those seeking diagnosis and treatment options for cancer.

Why Choose the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center?

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) is a national leader in cancer care, research and education, identified by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as one of the first 11 comprehensive cancer centers of its kind, and today is the only center in the state or region. Our more than 300 faculty members focus on laboratory research as well as patient care for every type of cancer, including the “major” diseases (breast, ovarian, lung, etc.). And because our care is comprehensive, we offer specialists and treatment for both rare and common cancers. This access to specialists streamlines your time spent with us, and offers you the best care available.

Because the CCC places such strong emphasis on cancer research, our patients have access to tumor biology, virology/gene therapy, immunobiology and targeted immunotherapy, as well as clinical studies of cancer prevention drugs. Patients benefit from more than $100 million in federal and private funds – funds that stay right here, at our Birmingham facility. Our center is internationally-recognized for our multidisciplinary collaborations.

The CCC is proud of its multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment. With our Integrated Multidisciplinary Clinical Care Program (IMCCP), we eliminate the stress brought on by multiple visits to multiple specialists by combining all those visits into one. While it used to take eight to 12 weeks to see a radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, surgical oncologist, pathologist and other therapists, it can now be done in a matter of hours thanks to our patient care coordinators.

Patients of the CCC are seen in several locations. Outpatients are treated at The Kirklin Clinic in Hematology-Oncology, the Breast Health Center, the Prostate Center and the Multidisciplinary GI Clinic. Gynecologic patients are seen at UAB Highlands located near the main campus. Radiotherapy is administered in the Wallace Tumor Institute. Most cancer patients are cared for inside UAB Hospital’s Jefferson Tower or the West and North Pavilions.

In addition to facilities on the UAB campus, patients are seen at the UAB Cancer Center at Acton Road, located at I-459. This state-of-the-art facility offers the expertise of specialists and comprehensive cancer services with the convenience and atmosphere of a private community doctor’s office.
